Ever since its launch, the Reliance Jio 4G network has taken over the telecom market by a storm. Although Reliance Jio is the newest entrant in the Indian mobile carrier market, it has managed the remarkable feat of gaining 100 million new subscribers within six months of its launch. However, there has been a widespread confusion about the technology used by Jio to provide the high-speed network. This is because many mobile users were unable to connect to the Jio network due to technological incompatibility. Jio deploys VoLTE technology which stands for Voice over LTE, which is a new technology for transmitting voice data over the LTE network. Jio is the only telecom company in India which has VoLTE rights. Unlike 2G and 3G networks, the VoLTE breaks up the voice call into small packets of information and transmits it over full data pipeline and reconstructs it at the receiver’s end. As a result, users can enjoy superior call quality than 2G and 3G networks.
If your phone is not VoLTE compatible, it will not be able to connect to the Jio network. Note that LTE and VoLTE are different technologies. LTE is capable of transmitting only data, while the VoLTE converts the voice calls into digital packets and transmits it over the LTE network. In other words, VoLTE is a subset of the LTE technology. However, Jio has developed a smart way to combat this problem. The telecom company rolled out an app called Jio4GVoice app, which can be used to make calls using the Jio network even if you do not have a VoLTE enabled phone.
The app is available on google play store and can be downloaded free of cost. However, you need to have a Jio SIM and a JioFi device to make calls from the App. Once the phone is connected to a JioFi Hotspot, you can make calls using the Jio 4G Voice app over the Jio VoLTE network regardless of the type of phone. Moreover, the Jio 4G Voice calling app offers a variety of innovative features such as image sharing with calls, creating virtual avatars and conference calls. Using the Jio 4G voice you can also connect to multiple users with a bridge call as well as share your location information. So even if you have 2G or 3G compatible phone, you can enjoy the attractive unlimited data plans and voice calling from the Jio Network with the Jio 4G Voice app and the JioFi device.
